Facebook – Connect 2021 graphics package
For this project, I led a team of motion designers in developing a package of graphics templates for Facebook’s Connect 2021 event.
My roles was Animation Director, although I spent a lot of my time working “in the trenches” with my team creating the motion design and the templates.
Step 1: Motion principles
We started – after a period of exploration – by defining a series of motion principles that would ensure consistency across our motion design.
Step 2: Motion guidelines
With our motion principles as a foundation, we extrapolated some motion guidelines: more detailed rules about how specific elements of the design should behave in motion.
Step 3: Putting it all together
Following the guidelines we had established, we were able to build out our full graphics package: titles, transitions, lower thirds, and so forth.
Step 4: Templating
Using expressions and essential graphics, we built out all these screens and elements as fully customisable motion graphics templates (.mogrt files) for use in both After Effects and Premiere.
This allowed the edit team to take our work and apply it to a massive volume of livestreams, VODs, and other assets in a way that was highly efficiently and error-proof.
